Not every Apple announcement gets a splashy unveiling on stage. Amidst the fanfare for iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2 yesterday were unannounced (and admittedly minor) price reductions and storage increases for iPads.
As MacRumors points out, there are now new storage options for iPad Air 2 andiPad mini 4. The Wi-Fi only iPad Air 2 is now available in 32GB and 128GB versions, instead of 16GB and 64GB. The best part is pricing remains the same: $399 for the base 32GB version and $499 for the 128GB.
The iPad mini 4$399.99 at Best Buy sees identical pricing and storage shifts, and both sizes of iPads continue to be offered with a cellular modem for an additional $130. If you really need cellular data and don’t mind carting around an extra device, though, your best bet is to buy a wireless hotspot, which can often be had for around $50 from your carrier of choice.
Apple will continue to sell the older iPad mini 2, which is now only available in a 32GB capacity, priced at $269. That’s more storage for less money than the previous 16GB entry-level model.
The 128GB and 256GB versions of the flagship 12.9-inchiPad Pro also see price reductions, to $899 and $999, respectively. Apple previously offered them at $949 and $1,099. The base 32GB iPad Pro keeps its $799 price tag. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro is available in the same configurations, albeit $200 cheaper than their larger cousins.
Although unannounced, the iPad storage increases mirror those offered on the new iPhone 7. Apple is dropping the 16GB version of its smartphone, so iPhone 7 will come in 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB configurations, starting at $649.
