Google has launched its mobile payment service Android Pay in the UK.

Building on Android Pay’s US launch last September, the UK has the benefit of a much wider adoption of the contactless payment system Android Pay relies on, which covers most major retail chains as well as the TfL public transport system.

To encourage user adoption, Google is launching a monthly ‘Android Pay Day’ with special offers from partners including Starbucks and Deliveroo for Android Pay users in the UK.

Android Pay also features an in-app checkout service, which has been incorporated by the likes of Deliveroo, JD Sports and YPlan.

Next on the slate for Android Pay are Australia – which was initially announced last year, before the UK – and Singapore.
