The latest version of Android – Marshmallow has managed to double its market share in just one month, according to new statistics from Google. The company estimated that Marshmallow already has a 4.6% market share compare to 2.3% in March. The older version Lollipop has a 35.8% market share, which is 0.3% less than last month, while KitKat working on 33.4% of the devices.
This data is gathered from the new Google Play Store app, which supports Android 2.2 and above, so devices running older versions are not included.
Three versions of Jelly Bean have a combined share of 21.3%, while Ice Cream Sandwich remains 2.2%. Interestingly, Android Gingerbread has more than ICS – 2.6%.
We have to mention that, any versions with less than 0.1% distribution aren’t included in the chart above. What we see here are some gains for Marshmallow, while every other version (except for the Gingerbread and Froyo) has lost market share. That’s probably indicative of what you should expect for the near future too.
Note: “This data is gathered from the new Google Play Store app, which supports Android 2.2 and above, so devices running older versions are not included.
