If you use Google Maps on iOS, you should head to the App Store and grab the latest update that adds a couple of notable new features.

Version 4.30.0 of Google Maps for iOS is now available, and it adds a Directions widget that you can access from the lock screen or by swiping over from the Notification Center when your phone is unlocked. As its name suggests, the Directions widget will show you the directions of a trip that you’ve started, complete with your next step and some arrows so that you can move forward through your trip if you’d like.

Also included in today’s update is an iMessage app for Google Maps. This simple iMessage app will show you your current location on Google Maps and let you send it to your iMessage chat mates, all without leaving iMessage.

Google says that version 4.30.0 of Google Maps for iOS also includes bug fixes.

This is a nice little update for Google Maps for iOS. Not only does it give you a quick way to access your turn-by-turn directions without you having to keep Google Maps open, but it also makes it super easy to share your location in iMessage. So if you rely on Google Maps to get you around, you should go grab this update from the App Store now.
