Since Apple killed off MagSafe charging entirely in favor of USB-C ports in the new MacBook Pro, easy, magnetic power cord connection has sadly gone the way of the headphone jack (RIP). If you want to experience that satisfying click every time you charge up — and have a safeguard against damaging your cords or ports with an unexpected tug — you’ll have to hold on to your old Apple laptops or jump ship to the Microsoft Surface line.

There are some magnetic adapters on the market that mimic MagSafe’s function, but they’re only good for charging, killing the data and video capacities of the USB-C in favor of the quick connection.

Thankfully, a new Kickstarter project looks to bring MagSafe’s convenience to USB-C ports for more than just charging. With the MagNeo, you’ll be able to do everything you need with your connections with just a click.

The team behind the project, Branch USB, claims it’s the most sophisticated USB-C magnetic adapter on the market. And that unlike its competitors, it supports the full data and video capabilities of USB-C.

The two-piece adapter is simple: just plug it in. Your USB-C cord inserts just as easily into the the adapter as the device’s port, and the break-away function is good to go.

The MagNeo uses gold plated pogo pins at the connection points that enable ultra-low power losses at the contact surfaces. It’s designed to last up to a million cycles.

MagNeo is compatible with everything that uses USB-C, including all Thunderbolt 3 devices. Phones like the Google Pixel, tablets and more are supported. It’s rated for up to 100W charging capacity, allows up to 5K video and maintains USB-C reversible connector capability.

It all starts with a $35 pledge to the Kickstarter campaign, with two adapters costing $59. It’s projected to ship in January and February, as the campaign is set to close Jan. 27.
