The design of the chip A11 of Apple, which is intended to power the upcoming iPhone 7s, which will appear next year, seems to have been completed.
This information coming from the DigiTimes, saying that Taiwanese chip-maker TSMC “has recently begun to tape out the design for Apple’s A11” of the future processor.
Referring to the “industry sources”, the media indicates that the design of the A11 will be made by the process 10nm FinFER, which is considerably more efficient production than the 16nm process used for the creation of chips from A9 iPhone 6S.
“TSMC is likely to obtain about two-thirds of the overall A11 chip orders from Apple,” the sources said. “The A11-series processor will power the iPhone models slated for launch in the second half of 2017.”
TSMC has responded saying the company does not comment on market rumors or speculation.
